New Strategy Slower And More Methodical
While they do that, they calculate, Air Force and Navy warplanes can bomb the Medina's tanks and other heavy weapons. Then Army artillery will pound fixed Iraqi positions and Apache attack helicopters will seek to destroy any tanks that try to reposition. Finally, tanks and mounted infantry troops will move in. This will replicate the sequence in the Gulf War, when under Powell's direction the U.S. military conducted five weeks of airstrikes on Iraqi forces in Kuwait before attacking on the ground -- and easily routing them.
The U.S. has a short memory. The Serbians outwit NATO. Same here, intelligence from 10,000 feet won't tell you how many tanks are in underground bunkers. It would be a bad scene if the U.S. went into Baghdad thinking it had eliminated most of the tanks when it didn't and they roll out in a surprise attack.

CIA Trying to Take Out Hussein Allies - Newspaper
If true, which we think it is, this is the proper course. It should have been the contiuned course of action instead of the escalation of the war effort. The Israelis have shown the course can be effective with the Hamas leaders.
They have gone in the wrong direction when there was an escalation in their actions. Jenin was a prime example of that. We have stated that the U.S. cannot fight an urban warfare sucessfully. When it came to Jenin, the Israelis didn't either.
A war in Baghdad would be like the battle of Jenin but the total of casualties would be much much greater.

Resistance by Militia Is Delaying Baghdad Battle, Officers Say
But the resistance from the militia groups to the rear of the advancing allies has been so stiff that commanders have concluded that this Iraqi threat has to be addressed first.
The Rumsfeld Symdrome. Make it as we go along or in other words, "just wing it."

Troops close in on Baghdad
But a medical corps man said the overnight toll on allied forces was heavy. “They (US and British troops) are taking a lot more casualties than they (senior officers) are telling the press — that’s why you’re seeing all these helicopters flying back and forth all night,” he said. He added that sniper cells remained in the city.
Rumsfeld does and what we said way back when. Who is right? You decide.

Here is the reality of what this war will be.

How a walkover turned into a three-day battle
We stated the U.S. has had no experience in urban warfare. Here is proof. The problem now is the troops wiil have to watch their backs. As the troops move towards Baghdad, those cities that were not taken will see the Iraqis move out coming up from behind.
Senior Iraqi tipped off CIA about Saddam
We wondered who was behind the first strike. Now we know. As was stated before, well done.
Andrew Sullivan states:
WHAT WE CAME FOR? A huge chemical weapons plant uncovered by U.S. troops, according to Sky News. We'll see. My favorite line in this piece, though, is the following: "UN weapons inspectors said they are not aware of any large-scale chemical sites which could be used to make chemical weapons in Najaf." Imagine that.
Yes, imagine that. He supported the idea of going to the U.N. in the first place.
Next he states:
THE TACTICS OF FAILURE: The setbacks the allies have suffered these last couple of days are all due to one thing: some Saddam units acting as terrorists. By pretending to surrender and then opening fire, by relocating in civilian neighborhoods, by shooting prisoners of war in the head, the soldiers apparently still loyal to Saddam are not reversing the allied advance. What they're doing is trying to inflict sufficient damage to improve their morale and increase the costs of the invasion. They want us to fire into civilian areas; they want us to panic at a few atrocities (as in Somalia); they are counting on an American unwillingness to persevere through serious casualties. And they intend to use the Arab media and their Western sypathizers to get this message out. The lesson to learn is that we have cornered the equivalent of a rabid dog. It will fight nastily, brutally and with no compunction. Those units who will go down with this regime will not go down easily. After an initial hope that this thing could be over swiftly, I think it's obvious by now that we're in for a nasty fight - and the Saddamite remnants will ally with the anti-war media to fight dirty and spin shamelessly.
The Rumsfeld factor took over and things are getting screwed up. Plan A was the proper course not Plan B. Things we only get worse as troops get closer to Baghdad. Fight Dirty? What a dumb fuck. There are no rules, what the hell does he expect. Bush made a terrible mistake by moving so fast. He should have continued targeting Iraqi leaders. Wait, gather intell and bomb again.

IRAQI SCUDS HIT KUWAIT
And we stated that troops in Kuwait would be targeted.
War predictions fall flat with missile attack
When the pundits were claiming an invasion, a few months back we stated it would be airstrikes and special ops that would be the proper course and the targets? Iraqi military officials beneath Hussein.
If the U.S. continues on this course, Hussein will be gone very soon.

Bush gives order to attack Iraq
Whomever planned the first strike, it was correct. The targets need to be Hussein's military leaders. Bomb wait, gather intelligence on their movments, then bomb again. Well done.
We have advocated that leaders below Hussein should be the targets. They are. The Iraqi Parliment should be put on notice that they are not safe from attacks. Plain and simple, strike at the the leaders, the armies will surrender. May the Bush administration succeed at its present plan.

Foreigners Urged to Leave Iraq
The Iraqi authorities have officially asked all journalists and foreign nationals to leave the country in anticipation of war, Gasan Nasur, correspondent of the Trud daily told Bulgarian National Radio.
He said that extraordinary security measures have been introduced in Iraqi capital Baghdad. Telephone lines were cut and there is no connection with other countries except by several satellite phones.
All flights were stopped and transport to Syria is possible only by car. Most of the shops are closed. Prices go up almost every hour.
Police have beefed up security measures in the capital.
US loses another front: Turkey again postpones vote on US troops
Ahem, Sullivan is AWOL on making comments about Turkey.
All signs point to Turkey entering the fray
According to Turkish sources, a number of developments have taken place since the parliamentary vote of March 1:
Ankara has become convinced that the Iraqi Kurds with American support are preparing to declare independence or at least a federation in northern Iraq after the war is over. The fact Washington has not been forthcoming on a number of issues Turkey sees as crucial (such as disarming the Kurds) has increased Turkish concerns that the Kurds are being groomed for a central role in the coming war something Ankara is against.
Washington’s readiness to back the Kurds to the hilt if Turkey balks at helping the American war effort. The Turks are suspicious that the Americans were behind the large anti-Turkey demonstrations that took to the streets of northern Iraq two days before Ozkok made his statement in order to force them to change their minds.
American threats that unless Turkey backs the US, then what the Turks fear (i.e. the establishment of a Kurdish state in northern Iraq) will come to pass.

Smearing the Church Ex Cathedra
Reynolds gets more opinions on his own bigotry.
We were just visiting Eschaton and came across the Kopp story on the jury selection. Many of you who have visited our site have read our comments on the murderer.
We supported the extradition and have been following the story long before weblogs like Eschaton found it would be a popular topic. Too bad for the person who runs the site. Because we love to bring to light bullshit bigotry and it comes in all forms. Hell we don't hold back and we don't care what political persuasion you are.
Why, because Hitler in his time was one of the biggest abortionist supporters. But what the hell, the left likes to claim he was a fanatical rightwing. Hell we might even buy that when you take a gander at this guy. Talk about being the friggin poster boy for the Aryan Brotherhood. But what the hell, what if he isn't, that could only mean that he is a leftist.
Laughingly, Eschaton comes up with a neat headline. But damn if there ain't some confusion on if he was talking about Kopp or Brian Finkel. The point here is, webloggers like Eschaton should be careful on how they make their case. It's called balance.
All one has to do is read about what Hitler did to Europes deaf to understand the mentality that goes into the thinking on aborting a child when it has defects.
In the end, soon you have euthanasia as the by-product. Belly up to the bar boys and girls, and state your case.

Here we go again.
Turkey will seek another vote on U.S. deployment
Iraq: Turkey Undecided On New Motion To Deploy U.S. Troops
Any bets on who has the story right.
Ahhhh. Now we know why Sullivan is making assinine comments, he has been getting too much Sun.
Sullivan, the village idiot speaks.
THE TURKS: One day, someone will write a real account of what has actually been going on in Turkey's ruling elite and parliament these past few weeks. You have a brand new government, run by a party that has never been in power before in the country's history. You have an effective leader, Tayyip Erdogan, who, because he doesn't have a parliamentary seat, isn't the actual prime minister (but may be very soon). You have the possibility that some pro-American deputies might have voted against the U.S. troops purely to discredit the new Islamic-party government, in the hopes of bringing the government down, and then bringing the troops in under new auspices. Then you have the economic legacy of the last Gulf war - and the latest shenanigans from Baghdad - having an impact on public opinion. Who knows what's next? But if the government is planning on a second vote, as they seem to be, they'd be suicidal if they thought they didn't have it in the bag. Two lost parliamentary votes could precipitate a collapse in the government. So my fearless prediction is that US troops could be in Turkey by the end of this week, or there will be a government crisis in that country. I have mixed feelings about this - not least because one key test of the Bush administration's plans for a post-Saddam Iraq will be how the semi-democratic Kurdish enclave in the north of Iraq survives and prospers. And somehow I think the Turks will be a little nervous about that. Cooperation with Washington now means greater leverage over the Kurds later. Uh-oh.
He was the one that called Bush going to the U.N. a good move. What a friggin moron.

Glenn Reynolds joins the ranks of religious bigots.
Here is the official word from the Vatican.
He takes the photo of a Cardinal and turns it into the Vatican being anti-semetic? He is a lawyer by trade afterall. Interestingly the bigot is always harping on anti-semitism but never anti-Catholicism. He joins the ranks of some pretty well known bigots.
Or like Shimon Samuels, of the Simon Wiesenthal Center who screamed about the archives of the pontificate of Pius not being fully accessible. Well the Vatican released them.
Yes that famed bigot Reynolds can join the ranks.
Iraq war would be slower, riskier without Turkey
"If President (George W.) Bush decides to have a military operation in Iraq we can do that with or without the so-called northern option, Ralston told CBS's "Face the Nation".
A can do attitude that will get you killed anytime. This is why Generals for the most part are political hacks. Any invasion and the one mentioned by the Washington Post would be a complete disaster. You soften by air and then move in. But a swift assault by air and land? Bullshit.
