Andrew Sullivan is now playing Hunter Thompson.

WHEN WEED CURES: Fascinating new evidence for the effect of marijuana on suppressing traumatic memories and anxiety attacks. More data suggesting that the prohibition is unwarranted.

Evidently this study slipped by the Hunter Thompson wannabe.

And while on the subect of drugs and Sullivan, he attacks Matt Welch with the descriptive word high-mindedness. Hmmm. Who has the high-mindedness?

Time to pick on Justin Raimondo with a see we told you so. And we are on the record.

In his latest he gets all whiny when he talks about Butler.

Day two will hardly give us a respite from this Soviet-style unanimity, when the witnesses will include:

Richard Butler, former head of UNSCOM, a man who has made a career out of campaigning for war with Iraq, now with the Council on Foreign Relations:

As for the fix? Here is his fix: Don't rush into Iraq war, Senate urges Bush

Now the Senate and the military are on the same page.

The U.N. has finally come out with a report on Jenin. Since there was no U.N. investigation, their report is nonsense.

The JPost stated that "The heaviest fighting during the period was in the Jenin camp, where the Palestinians said Israeli attacks killed 500 people."

This is not exactly true and it is misleading. The exact statements and exact numbers told by both sides are all here.

Germany Calls For Sustained Pressure on Iraq for UN Inspectors

Germany has signed with the U.S. on the dotted line.

Drudge posted some bogus article from the WorldTribune the other day. In the article, the WorldTribune stated that Iraq had begun a buildup of troops along the Iraqi/Kuwaiti border. The U.N. Troops have proven that story to be false.

We are amazed news outlets such as Matt Drudge use the WorldTribune as a reputable source.

Jonah Globerg thinks that an attack on Iraq is long overdue.

Looks as if his long overdue will get longer.

The Bush administration said there would be no attack on Iraq before the November elections.

Biden: No Iraq strike before 2003

Andrew Sullivan attacks the Times and the military at the same time.

STOPPING THE WAR I: Why is it front page news that secretary of defense Donald Rumsfeld thinks air-strikes alone can't disable Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction? Hasn't this been obvious for ever? We've been treated to several competing alleged leaks for ground invasions of Iraq over the past few weeks, as Jack Shafer has noted. Does the Times think that ground troops of 50,000 to 250,000 will be deployed from the air? Shafer asks the question of why these leaks are occurring but misses an obvious one: the doves in the Pentagon are allying with the doves at the major papers to wage a public campaign against the necessity of war against Iraq. The point of the Times story today is simply to get the following sentence on the front page: "A growing number of lawmakers from both parties are voicing concern that the administration is heading precipitously toward war." The Los Angeles Times chimes in as well. Hearings begin today. But the campaign to protect Saddam's weaponry began a long time ago. Those of us who think the majority of Americans decided last September that war with Iraq was essential to our present and future security had better be prepared. The opposition is determined and organized, and they are passionately opposed to using American power to defeat the forces of state terror. What if the U.N. opposes it or doesn't endorse it? Many visceral doves in Washington will rally. If they can isolate the administration from the allies and the Congress, then there's a good chance appeasement will gain even more momentum.

Note to Andrew Sullivan, those many so-called visceral doves are wearing brass and they have to lay their ass on the line.

As has been posted on this site, the military brass say it is risky business to invade Iraq. Sullivan doesn't care, he doesn't have to lay his ass on the line. Fortunately for the military, they do get listened to. As for Rumsfeld, he is playing bad guy. And as for air strikes, they are doing what they are intended to do. Destroy military hardware.

The U.N. is questioning their usefullness in Lebanon. Here is a twist.

As they draw back, guess who is beefing up their forces along the Lebanon/Isareli border. It is not the Lebanese. The U.N.'s desire to move out is a reflection of their support of Syria.

Another one comes out of the closet of bigotry and promotes the idolatry of violence that equates to terrorism. George Jonas has the courage to write these words in the National Post.

Israel's leaders have come a long way from David Ben-Gurion's 1928 remark that "our sense of morality forbids us to harm a single hair on the head of an Arab child, even though by this we might attain all that we seek." The gradual departure from this lofty stand wasn't Israel's choice. The Jewish state has been pushed and provoked for 54 years by Arab/Muslim rejectionists and their terrorist supporters. It explains the Sharon-government's current position. Whether it excuses it is a different question.

To liberals who are against the violence, here is what you have created. The acceptance of one not accepting responsibility in a bloody action because one is pushed, has been used time and time again by the liberal apologists. The Sharon government wasn't pushed nor were the Palestinian militants pushed into killing innocent Israelis. Both did it with the intent of revenge and a free will.

Writers like this guy are a crock and are apologists for violent actions. Through their writings, they become enablers to the violence because they join in on offering excuses. Next time writers like these trumpet about how someone was pushed, they need to think about how far and who it was.

Because Sharon wasn't the one who saw their child killed nor did the parents intend their child to be killed. But Sharon did and to him, the mission was a success.

As for the rest of this writer's bullshit, let him explain or make excuses for the innocent bystander who was killed by Israeli militants who call themselves settlers. If this had happened in the U.S. what would be the response in the U.S.?

Two things come to mind when this article was read. Ear infections and pharmaceutical companies rewarding doctors who push their anti-biotics.

Speaking of the Wayback Machine, Steven Chapman has found out its use through another blogger.

It is very good on finding archives, check it out on the side bar of this site.

Tony Blair is given a way out of going along with the U.S. on an invasion of Iraq.

The Guardian is now picking up on how the U.S. military brass think an invasion of Iraq would be a mistake.

The most important statement in the article is this: "...In briefings calculated to query the administration's persistent sabre rattling towards Iraq, unnamed officers told the Washington Post that the policy of containment was working well and that the alternative, a military assault, was too riddled with risk to be worth pursuing."

As it is.

Damian Penny will learn. The Kach have shown their hand once again. The revolving door in the judicial system in Israel will show up again. Remember the Israeli militant who conspired to blow up innocent Palestinians. He was let out under house arrest.

What makes Penny think the Israeli government is different than Arafat. These bloggers are certainly getting an education and eating crow as events unfold in the Mafia wars between the hardliners of Palestinians and Israelis.

This is too funny. Andrew Sullivan doesn't question the New York Times when it comes to a possible attack on Iraq.

SOONER RATHER THAN LATER? The Guardian seems alarmed by the possibility of an early, 50,000 troop initiative to rid the world of Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction. I find it encouraging. Meanwhile, in the latest leak, the "inside-out" strategy appears to be a serious one. Or is this a bluff? Either way, it's good news. It suggests we're nearing the point when real decisions are about to be taken. Not a moment too soon.

We were the first to question the New York Times article on the temperatures cited in Alaska and we will question the veracity of the New York Times article on the plan to attack Iraq.

It won't happen on the scale that is alleged. Plain and simple the deployed troops are busy with current missions.

Paul Greenberg gets it.

Israel is supposed to be a Jewish state -- which doesn't mean it's a theocracy, but that it upholds certain values. And the pre-eminent Jewish book warns against destroying even fruit trees in time of war, let alone women and children. (Deuteronomy 20:19) Voices of conscience are already being raised in Israel, and they need to be heeded.

Nice try professor of logic. Check in with the gay community there before you make such assinine suggestions.

Andrew Sullivan says:

FOR PEACE IN ISRAEL, REMOVE SADDAM: A simple, persuasive and powerful case for war against Iraq in yesterday's Los Angeles Times.

OK so if it is in Israel's best interest, why should the U.S. be the one to oust him. Clearly Sullivan is confused on U.S. policy. Military involvement in foreign countries require a U.S. interest. Hussein must act aggresively towards the U.S. Currently Israel has the military capability to win a war against Iraq.

Since Justin Raimondo is such a big fan of China, he must have missed this one on purpose.

Some more B.S. from the New York Post.

But just how "innocent" were those civilians?

No - no one's suggesting that any of them personally took part in terror attacks against Israelis (not that it would be all that surprising if some had).

Wow, "not that it would be all that surprising if some had."

Then this writer has the audacity to state:

But based on appearances, there is strong evidence that (the grown-ups, at least) knowingly, actively, willingly harbored a major terror thug, intentionally putting themselves and their kids at risk.

And where was the Israeli intelligence on this? They indicated they didn't know there were civilians. And this writer makes a judgment on appearances. Must have been what the Israeli intellgence used. "It appeared there were no civilians in the area."

Then this writer turns to the Iraqis.

To claim innocence, Iraqi citizens must take every measure to protect themselves and their kids. They must ensure that they are not made into hostages. And that Saddam - and his supporters - are given no quarters.

How many Palestinian informers have been killed? And where in the hell does Iraq have a constitution that ensures the right of private citizens against the military coming in and setting up shop; let alone being threatened with your life for not abiding by a dictator's rule.

The writer of this piece is another fine example of the bigotry that is held in the Israeli hardliner's heart.

Some military brass favor no Iraq attack.

This story is more realistic and refutes the New York Post story on an invasion of Iraq.

Carpoint test drives Volvo's $10 million Safety Concept Car and talks to the car's engineers about its advanced safety features.

Some of the safety components of the car included an exterior airbag that protects pedestrians and sensors on the sideview mirror that warned the driver that a car was in their blind spot.

In another story from the New York Post, Operation Polo Step is mentioned as proof of an attack on Iraq.

The plan "Operation Polo Step" was a plan to invade Iraq. Under the plan, special ops and airstrikes would destroy chemical and biological weapon sites before the weapons there could be used against an invading American force.

The preemptive strikes in the contingency plan, were drafted by the U.S. Central Command. That plan was outlined in The Los Angeles Times on June 23 by columnist William M. Arkin. The plan included sending 250,000 troops into Iraq.

This is old news and if any special ops plan was going to take place, it has already done so. Many of the current airstrikes in Iraq are most likely key chemical and biological targets. Not radar facilities. As for 250,000 troops, that will never take place.

More B.S. from the New York Post.

What went wrong, said retired air-force Brig. Gen. Ron Pekar, is that small barracks and sheds were blasted by shock waves of the bomb, and that is how most of the civilians died.

And so where are the pictures of the bombed site. Jenin was worth a thousand words to the IDF. And the press has no pictures? Why? Better yet, get an aerial shot of the buildings that were blasted by the one ton bomb.

The dishonesty of the Israeli government and its criminal use of a one ton bomb is what is being questioned. The suicide bombers and the comparison to this is becoming more similar. The difference, however, is the suicide bomber is honest in who it targets and why. Revenge.

But one expects honesty and civility from a state government. It is becoming very evident that the supporters of the hardline policies of Israel, have none in their support of Israel's act of revenge.

Kudos to Steve Chapman on his statement on Human Shields.

Admittedly, the opinions on this site have been more critical of Sharon and his policies, but nonetheless, this blogger has been one of the more lucid bloggers on the Middle East violence. At a certain point one who has reason, will eventually come to the point of saying enough is enough.

In the Anchorage Daily News' letters to the editor, Archbishop Francis T. Hurley responded to the editorial staff's statements crticizing school vouchers.

Daily News resorts to scare tactics in criticizing school vouchers

The July 15 editorial uses not only the headline but also the content as a scare tactic ("Regulating religion"). School vouchers are not about regulating religion or about fostering religion. Facts show that in Milwaukee and Cleveland. The Supreme Court made that clear. Its latest decision on vouchers is consistent with its position in the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965. Private and religious schools have participated in that because the programs are for children and for specific programs.

The Alaska Supreme Court in 1961 declared bus rides to private schools unconstitutional. But the court later held bus rides for private-school children along existing routes as constitutional. You were asleep on the bus on that one.

You resort to scare tactics in setting up straw ghosts. Your "what if" hypothesis about Catholic teaching was permanently laid to rest in Vatican Council II in 1965. Your "what if" hypothesis about Muslims plays a terrorist card in today's climate.

You reflect incomplete knowledge of law, fuzzy bromides about religions, and ignorance of the many examples of cooperation of private schools for the benefit of children -- cooperation demonstrated to be constitutional.

As a former high school teacher, I offer this advice: Do your homework. Responsible journalism warrants at least that.

Glenn Reynolds has finally pick up on John Leo's article that has been posted here.

One thing that Reynolds has failed to address is that tainted bloggers including himself, have a tendency to be wrong when they write for the media. They themselves will become the target. His purity as a blogger has been tainted. Thus he has a certain following that ensures that the kingdom of blog remains pure.

Guys like Reynolds, Sullivan and the vast group of eclectic journalist/lawyer/professor blogger types who like to brag about tearing down misinformation handed out by the media, are the very ones who engage in the practice.

Here is an American journalist with a drug habit.

"I've never, never met anyone who smokes as much as I do," he said. "In Jamaica, I freaked out the Jamaicans."

Jonah Goldberg has a litmus test for being Patriotic.

The young man states; " I disagree with certain folks on the right when it comes to some arguments about American sovereignty. For example, I'm a free trader and I don't think the WTO is sapping my precious bodily fluids."

Mr. Goldberg's statement reminds me of a quote made in 1927; "Patriot: the person who can holler the loudest without knowing what he is hollering about."

Evidently the man has forgotten about GATT, NAFTA and the laws that attack the U.S. and its own laws. Some might say he is not a Patriot in the pure sense. But he sure can holler the loudest.

The United States has invited six Iraqi opposition groups to Washington next month for talks on removing Saddam Hussein, spokesmen for three of the factions said Saturday.

There will be no full scale invasion.

We have it from a reliable source that while being stopped for going left of center three times, the military is in hot pursuit of Traficant in their F-16's.

Word has it that the Portage County Sheriff's Department stated that Traficant's last words as the sheriff's department was done giving a sobriety test was, "Beam me up Scotty." Evidently he is currently nowhere to be found.

Iran Court Bans Opposition Party

Rep. Don Young, one of the nine members of congress that did not cast a yea or nea vote on expelling Traficant.

Spokeswoman Amy Inaba said Young believes the people of Ohio's 17th District are the ones who should pass judgment on Traficant.

Another representative, Rep. Steve LaTourette, R-Ohio, was troubled by testimony presented to the House by a juror from Traficant's trial. The testimony of the one juror is an angle that has been ignored by the mainstream press. Currently, Sydney Jacobs is working on an article addressing that angle. She should be done shortly.

Hefty Asteroid to Sweep Near Earth

Flogged by bloggers

Keep an eye on bloggers. The main arena for media criticism is not going to be books, columns, or panel discussions, and it certainly won't be journalism schools. It will be the Internet.

As for the article the New York Times ran on the warming in Alaska, it was disputed here first, and then the "report from the Center for Global Change said Alaskan temperatures did not rise consistently over the 20th century–the pattern was back and forth: warming until 1940, cooling until the 1960s, then warming again" came out.

As for Sullivan and others, they themselves are flogged by bloggers.

Lebanese brides dance away

"Memento Mori" and "Shadows on the Land" are two poetic narratives written for my children and grandchildren. They testify that I witnessed something unusual on two consecutive days, sixteen months before 9/11/01. I believe the inner messages and the behavior of the eagles were relevant, timely gifts. I also believe that the narratives can serve as minor contributions for our times. I would urgently add that our children must learn about our Nation's honorable History, wherein lies struggle, and growth - the eternal bases for hope.

Memento Mori
Sydney Jacobs

On Memorial Day, 2000 A.D., I raised our flag in honor of those who were lost to us. Hair raised on my neck, as unseen warriors pressed close. They and I waited for Old Glory to unfurl. Eager to go on display, adorned in new colors, Glory waited, until a strong current lifted her, and she skipped skyward. We all came to attention, with the sound of the rhythmic roll of slap, slap, snap!

My phantom guests and I stood in silence. A sense of loss and shame grew, as I looked down an unadorned street. "It is not enough; I am sorry." Whispered words fell as spilled milk. There was no bugler, no band, or exulted national pride to offer, only my pitiful Apologia.

"I am a poor substitute for forgotten idealism, or virtue lost. The Lord knows I tried," I sniveled. An old woman's ruminations continued: "Would you have fought, if you had known about our nation's drugged undoing? Were we too soft? too tough? Were our efforts enough?"

As if to console, they huddled closer, those who were lost to us. Sighing, they reassured, "All wars' victories are pyrrhic; It is enough to know some have tried to win souls' endless ones. Begin again; make everything count; be good women and men. Tell the children to remember us, as you pass the baton."

Unconsoled, I wanted more for them, some sign of natural gratitude, perhaps the spiritual cry of "Taps." Surely that would ease the shame caused by communal indifference. I was certain that ghostly warriors would hear its bittersweet refrain, and be comforted. Then, stillness hushed my busy mind like a gentle, "Shh."

For an instant, I stood watching Old Glory, when suddenly, two melodious cries came from the Southwest. Turning, I saw them again. This time, the white headed eagles stood in rapt attention atop a dead Cottonwood, each facing East and our nation's flag.

Like stoic generals, they stood motionless. It seemed as if they were watching ghostly troops pass in review. Tears welled, as I watched the raptors. They appeared to be honoring veiled warriors of every stripe. Deeds that had tried many in the name of friendship and country were rightly acknowledged that day. The feathered ones remained at attention for two hours. Finally, as if rehearsed, they lifted, and glided East. True to the flyover tradition, they returned, swooped low over our nation's flag, and disappeared into a flood plain's hidden blinds.

As a gentle breeze emptied my heart and mind of ghostly warriors, I recalled the simple message."Begin again! Make everything count; Be good women and men; Teach the children to remember us, as you pass the baton." As it was said, it is here written. Now, it is done. ‘Be not afraid!' Tell the children that souls' endless wars are not yet won.

SAVE THE TRAFICANTS

Sydney Jacobs

Like the movement to "Save the Whales," we need a world-wide crusade to save the Traficants. Who or what are the Traficants? They are a dying species of males that are known by their predisposition to bluster, fume, grab attention, get to the point, hit and stand, and tell the unvarnished truth, or at least their version of it. Some are suspected of being minor crooks.

They are gross in their demeanor, given to verbosity, unbridled self-confidence, arrogance and vulgarity. They are disarmingly self-effacing sinners, who often drink too much, pass gas, belch and make no pretense about their earthy, lustful fantasies, when tender young things walk by. More than a few of them probably have a hard time getting it up with regularity, and without aids. Many have a hard time keeping their hands off of you, if you are female. Males don't have to worry. Traficants' are stanch heterosexuals. If you are a male, just relax. The only thing you have to worry about is being sunburned from Traficants' sun-like rays of humor.

Men and women love Traficants, because they are what we are not - bold, brave, audacious and vulnerable. They are not worthy heros, but they are worthy of note, because in a time of PC, back stabbing, child rape and murder, and child pornography, as well as the marketing of aborted fetal body parts, they have the aura of heroism, if not its substance. And we will take what we can get as role models, because we are exhausted from overexposure to disloyalty, meanness, traitors and cruelty. Not that Traficants cannot be cruel. They can. They have been known to lacerate known and perceived enemies with cutting words. And I suspect that they, along with many others, have had their hand under the counter.

Who can we turn to if not the Traficants? Moles have overtaken our major institutions, including our churches. Can we depend on the left-over rebellious types from the sixties? They who hid in the shadows, hit and ran, and have gone on to become Ivy League prostitutes? i.e., well-heeled pansies, who rub elbows with the now legitimate (oxymoron) mob. Why, they pale in Traficants' light! Naw! The old noise makers have given new meaning to the lexicals: "disloyal", "traitor," "user," and a host of other negatives. They are the Pied Pipers who have led us to our ruin.

Once, we could deal with the Traficant's. They followed unpredictably, predictable pathways. And although they were perceived to be bottom feeders at times, we knew how to handle them. We were not fully overwhelmed. Traficants didn't own the Justice Department, like Clinton and Reno did, and I suspect, in a large part still do. They weren't powerful like Hitler and Stalin. They didn't kill millions. So, we were grateful when we came into their sphere of power.

I ask those of you who believe that the Traficants are a dying species to e-mail your Representative, Senator, President, Tyrant, Dictator, Prime Minister, King, Queen, Priest, Imam, Pope, Bishop, Attorney General, Governor, Sheriff, Cop, anyone who will listen and act. Tell them to knock it off. Leave our Traficants alone.

The reason for this call to action, after the spirit of Paul Revere, is that one of the remaining few Traficants is about to be pilloried and spirited off to a Gulag, because he refused to suck up and succumb to the party line. He sounded the alarm about Red China and all the other Reds and their fellow terrorists, who are in the process of taking our Republic out, and us with it.

He blew the whistle on his fellow Democrats and has made it clear that he hates the government, but loves his country. One of the Traficants' immune weaknesses is a predisposition to be too forthright, if not totally honest. Remember Aleksandr Isayevich Solzhenitsyn? He said it was coming: our Republic's extinction, the demise of the Traficants and the end of our freedom.

Ohio's Representative, JimTraficant, was skewered by Congress. The Democrats and Republicans coalesced and got him out of their hair, because the enemy is within both parties, and they are powerful. That is why Traficants have sought refuge in the welcoming harbor of the declaration of independence. Save an endangered species known as Traficants! Write your e-mails, for they are us.

Iraq seeks steel for nukes

A hunting we shall go.

The London Evening Standard and Pravda report that American and British special forces are now building staging areas in Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait, with military action likely within months – possibly as early as August.

Early August, it probably has happened already. These "staging" areas have been "staging" for years.

For cry'n out loud. Some idiot of a Cardinal cooks up some conspiracy on a Jewish conspiracy against the Catholic Church and its problems with the sexual abuse cases.

According to the ADL, a Honduran Catholic Cardinal implied somehow that Jews manipulated the American media. The ADL stated:

"...Cardinal Oscar Andres Rodriguez Maradiaga, in a May interview with the Italian-Catholic publication 30 Giorni, claimed Jews influenced the media to exploit the current controversy regarding sexual abuse by Catholic priests in order to divert attention from the Israeli-Palestinian crisis."

Doug Thompson nails it on the Traficant vote.

Traficant deserved to go, but you have to wonder just how many others on the Hill should get the same treatment.

For example:

Florida Rep. Corrine Brown who left investors in several shady business deals back home holding the bag and then lied about her involvement in those deals to federal investigators. She also has accepted large cash payments from activists and religious leaders.

Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank, the most openly-gay member of Congress, whose male prostitute boyfriend ran a whorehouse out of the Congressman’s Capitol Hill townhouse.

Virginia Rep. Jim Moran who openly sells his vote to any lobbyist or corporate bigwig who will lend his money to try and pay off huge debts from stock market losses.

The list goes on and on. Congress is rushing to pass a bill outlawing corporate fraud.

If they really want to outlaw fraud, maybe they should just pass a bill outlawing Congress.

ICC Cannot Touch Israel

Plain and Simple, there is no state of Palestine.

Hopefully the voice of Peres will be listened to. Highly unlikely that the Hamas will.

Speaking of Rep. Ron Paul

We speak of him , he writes.

Now how will Ann Coulter spin this one.

Tony Karon says pretty much what was said on this site:

"...And moderates looking to revive peace efforts and demilitarize Palestinian politics are likely to find themselves drowned out by the hard men in the battle for Palestinian public opinion."

That is precisely what Sharon wanted. He knew the efforts of the moderates were taking hold and politically, he can't have that happen. By President Bush playing soft on Sharon, the thug showed his hand again.

The closing of the moderate Palestinian's office at the University is the thinking behind Sharon. In the last few months you can put Jenin, Nablus, the closing of the University, the threat of deporting families and now the bombing and killing of more innocent Palestinians on Sharon's list of terror. He is no different than those who he has killed. The difference is, he is given the license to do it.

President Bush lost the battle at the moment, hopefully he can bring the voice of moderation to the forefront in the Middle East.

Newsmax has a pretty good article on Traficant.

They are right in regard that Traficant bucked the system and in that way he was more honest than those who should have been joining him.

He is however the wrong guy to raise the banner to. He broke the law like his peers, but was convicted. The vote on the house floor on expelling him was uneventfull given that it was known that he would be expelled. But Condit, the no vote. Come on. What is that all about.

After a 2 1/2 month investigation, the D.A. said they were not able to substantiate sexual abuse allegations against Bishop Rueger.

(via clergyabuse)

This one takes the cake.

Only a few hours after Israeli intelligence pinpointed the whereabouts of its most wanted terrorist, an Israeli air force jet delivered a "perfect hit" on his lair - with a 1-ton "smart" bomb, officials said yesterday.

Ok Israeli intelligence did a great job on locating the guy.

The lightning-quick "targeted killing" of the elusive Hamas leader Salah Shehada was carried out Monday night by a pilot so skilled and with equipment so sophisticated that he could put the powerful explosive "through the left side of a window or through the right side if he had to," former air force Brig. Gen. Ran Peker said.

Ok so far so good.

But Israeli officials said they were investigating why faulty intelligence failed to detect the presence of civilians in Shehada's hideout before the attack that killed him, his wife and 13 others, including nine children.

Any takers? The intelligence is good enough to get the location of the guy, but not so good when detecting 150 some casualties that were in the vicinity of that one ton bomb.

Memo to the New York Post: Get on the same page.

China is now crying about the 34 million that the U.S. has pulled out of the family planning that carries the Made in China label.

John Podhoretz blames the dead Hamas leader for the deaths of the innocent Palestinians.

It comes down to this. He shouldn't have used those who died as human shields. Don't that beat all. Israel lobs a one ton bomb to get one guy and he comes up with this bullshit.

250,000 Palestinians attend funeral of those killed in Israeli raid

Well Sharon got what he wanted. No chance of Peace. Bush has his hands full and the Palestinian moderates will be slowly pushed out of the picture.

What is amazing is people like this guy can make foolish statements like: "..I don't believe the Israelis went in there with the intent of killing civilians - which differentiates tham from the likes of Hamas or the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade, who almost exclusively target civilians - but surely to God, one thinks, there were more precautions which could have been taken."

It's called "collateral damage." If I didn't know better, I would have thought I was in a court room listening to a second rate closing argument. Better yet, from the Israeli government "... Ariel Sharon, the Israeli Prime Minister, hailed the killing of the Hamas commander Salah Shehada as a great success. The deaths of 14 others, including nine children, were said to be regrettable."

An Israeli Army statement said, “Shehada was behind hundreds of terrorist attacks carried out over the past two years” against Israeli military and civilian targets.

In other words, it was calculated that civilians would be killed and regretable at the same time. That folks is "collateral damage" to the hardline Israeli supporters. To others it is a killing, that is unjustified because you use a one ton bomb on one person.

Update According to the Timesonline U.K. "a Palestinian declaration containing an unconditional commitment to end suicide attacks on civilians was finalised hours before the attack. It was to have been made public yesterday but has now been postponed indefinitely."

The United States has been trying to strike a bilateral deal with Germany to protect its soldiers from prosecution from the International Criminal Court in The Hague. Brendan O'Neill has a typical response to the IRA.

Unfortunately, the IRA becomes the focus and not the Catholics themselves. What the Protestant British rule has done to the Catholics is the problem and the dumbass members of the IRA do no service to the Catholics in Ireland.

Many influential Protestants from England have a history of bigotry. That bigotry found itself in America's history though the "Know Nothing Party" to the Blaine Amendment. An Amendment that had the support of Protestants because its intent was to deny Catholic Schools public funding.

After reading this, this and this.

I am reminded of this statement made in 1929: "Lawyers are like other people--fools on the average; but it is easier for an ass to succeed in that trade than any other."

Drudge is flashing a news story on "religious conservatives" have become deeply troubled by his actions, the NEW YORK TIMES is planning to report in a blistering Page One spread on Wednesday."

It doesn't take a rocket scientists to know that unless of course you are Ann Coulter. Rep. Ron Paul was getting a little P.O.'d at Ashcroft on his Homeland Security deals.

Phyllis Schlafly talks about vouchers.

The NEA's first and most important goal is to fight against any voucher plan, such as the Cleveland plan which was recently upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court, and which the NEA now forecasts will be imitated in seven or eight other states.

She is right.

In Alaska where the Blaine Amendment has been adopted Rich Kronberg - President of NEA - Alaska makes the statement that:

Vouchers do nothing to improve schools. They distract from real efforts to improve the quality of our public schools by focusing our attention away from what really matters: high-quality teachers, safe and well-maintained facilities, up-to-date curricula, and credible assessments aligned to rigorous standards.

Too bad he is wrong. And as for the Blaine Amendment which was borne out of religious bigotry; it will be challenged soon in states that have adopted the intent of the law by placing it into their state constitutions.

What this means is federal law will dictate that the language of the Blaine Amendment be eliminated from the state's constitution.

The GOP has some problems.

Justice Dept. forges ahead with TIPS, despite Armey ban

SHADOWS ON THE LAND

By Sydney Jacobs

As I watched two Bald Eagles scrutinize my Granddaughter, I silently confronted my naive notions about nature and the political world. The eagles provided me with a metaphor about romantic notions that lead us into real-life traps. I had not yet connected the dots that led me to seemingly unconnected worlds, the natural and the political. It took Teddy Roosevelt to help link them.

After watching a video of the movie, The Wind and the Lion, I was reminded that President Theodore Roosevelt's understanding of the world, probably stemmed from a similar encounter with creatures of prey and envisioned his own metaphor for the political world.

Our national symbol, the Bald Eagle, did not seem to enthrall President Roosevelt; Nor was he naive about the way to go about defending our nation's sovereignty. In 1902, he advised: "Speak softly, and carry a big stick." Old Teddy, the hunter and environmental steward, probably reasoned, as I did, that nature is bewitchingly tranquil and beautiful on its surface, but dangerously chaotic and savage at its functional core.

Though we long for peace, as a fallen race, we are doomed to wage an eternal war against an unseen enemy, who hates our strengths and delights in our self-sabotaging, fatal weaknesses. Our Warrior-President seemed to understand and accept that reality as a challenge. So must we.

The Eagles that appeared, May 2001, served to recall timeless warnings in the form of lessons that were taught by Christ for our consideration and well-being. It is important to turn to Him again. As environmentalists' questionable gospels laud earth and nature's preeminence, over humankind, we need to revisit Christ's gospels and ask why His kingdom was not of this earth. And we need ask ourselves why some ennoble environmentalists and their views, despite the fact that they have blatantly targeted for extinction, white babies, their more darkly colored kin and the elderly. Below, I have shared a special moment in time for the reader's consideration. A poetic narrative - nonetheless, it provides a hard lesson.

Hours before the arrival of Memorial Day, 2000 A.D., they commanded my grassy meadow from their high Cottonwood perch, one facing West the other East, "A pragmatic schism." I thought, as I glanced up at the raptors. Their orchestrated cries had broken a delicate silence, and caught my attention.

They were regal creatures, but sentimentality clouded mind's clarity, as I watched, transfixed. Their white-wizened-heads moved only now and again, as feathered bodies stood immobile. They seemed oblivious to the Ravens, who challenged with coarse, kaw, kaw, kaws. Awash in peace, I watched them, entranced, unaware that they, too, observed.

One hour or more, they stood over their consumers' meadow: my groomed, grassy acre, surrounded by wild roses, trees, Fireweed and twiggy hideaways; where Moose Mamas, had come with their young, and selectively ate Mariah and Meg's prize cabbages. It is a place where mating Porcupines danced, where Moles, Voles and Squirrels scamped and I, too, had tramped, seeking Rose Hips, Watermelon Seeds and other natural delicacies.

Mine was a fit hunting place for the Mighty Ones camped there. A remote viewer, I uttered no prayer for smaller, potential victims. I was willing to admire, not judge. My mind drifted to them, as if we were one, when a welcome intruder appeared. Little, Mariah, my grandchild, ran as tots do to a weed, and stood examining it. For a brief moment, I looked for her parents, but they pushed the thought from my mind, as I glanced at the Raptors. The feathered hunters had spotted Mariah, and adjusted their stance.

With new intensity, both faced East, now, studying the lone child. Their interest waxed, as she thoughtfully lifted a leaf's tip, and tenderly touched a Spider's web. "A respectful visitor," I digressed. "She is innocent, trusting, aware of differences, and loves the littlest of God's creatures. Her father has taught her well," I mused, approvingly.

I had momentarily forgotten the Raptors' intensity. The World seemed balanced and at peace. Nevertheless, the thought quickly passed as the majestic birds fell silent; measuring, posturing, calculating, as if Mariah was the day's meal.

Now changed, in my mind's eye, they signaled the presence of potential enemies. Instinct warned: "They have torn Lambs from their Mothers. Think! They are majestic Birds of Prey, and little more. That's what they are meant to do; it is Nature's way."

"Come, Mariah, to the door, " I called. Lost in meditation, she didn't move. Another voice urged, "Hurry, free her from her reverie, or have her no more." As I ran to her, my mind was frozen by imagined fear. Suddenly, the revving sound of a small motor intercepted dreadful thoughts. As I held Mariah's hand, I turned and saw her father, a self-employed man and Gulf War veteran, as he drove my tractor-mower toward the Cottonwoods. He had come to do a good deed.

I looked up at the unadorned, high-pole-trees and watched with awe, as the white-headed creatures seemed to give up the ghost. Slipping down on streams of free air, the Hunter-gliders silently approached us, then swooped low, above my grandchild and me. Their black shadows swept nearby grass and sun burned windows. "Signs of power's might and a warning," I thought, as their dark passing glanced us. In an instant, they reminded me why one such as these was our nation's chosen symbol.

As they moved on, I drew Mariah close. An ominous sense of gloom suddenly enveloped me. "Strange! ," I thought. Still, like other times when disquieting intuitions lacked insight and certainty, I stored them in the back of my mind, but only briefly. The raptors returned the next day, to clarify and remind.

William L. Anderson has some interesting thoughts on the Amish.

He goes off the deep end when he states:

A myth that permeates our society today is the falsehood that "responsible citizenship" requires that one vote in elections and keep abreast of political news. I know of no more responsible people than the Amish, and no people who are less politicized. That does not mean they do not stand up for their rights; a very conservative Amish sect in nearby Cambria County, Pennsylvania, has unsuccessfully fought to have a gray buggy triangle instead of the orange one the state requires.

But he does note, the Amish have the ability to function under a sytem that requires "responsible citizenship" from its people.

The U.S. is going to withold $34M in U.N. Funds.

That should make British MP Norman Lamb happy.

Philippine villagers bid U.S. troops teary goodbye

Not sure on what to say about Justin Raimondo's latest. He covers a lot of ground.

One track leads off into an area that would have one believe that Christianity is under attack in the U.S. His lead in? Here it is:

If the oppression of women is now a casus belli, then we'd better send an invasion force to Cullane, Scotland, where they held the British Open golf tournament at a men-only club. As for countries that persecute Christians: the campaign to ban all expressions of Christian faith from the public square is nearly as advanced in the US as it was in the Soviet Union. Religious activities in public schools, mangers at Christmastime, and even the reference to God in the Pledge of Allegiance are all under attack. Never mind what happens in Saudi Arabia – in the US, militant atheists have done everything but throw Christians to the lions. And I seem to recall at least one prominent instance in which that is pretty much what happened.

After reading this excerpt, the word histrionic comes to mind. When the U.S. becomes more like Pakistan and adjudicates death sentences to individuals who claim to be Jesus and denounce Islam, then he can be taken seriously.

We pick up on a simliar attitude at Warblogger Watch and Instapundit.

Hans von Sponeck is calling on Iraq to call Bush's bluff

Hans von Sponeck was the UN humanitarian aid coordinator for Iraq from 1998-2000 and has just returned from a two-week stay in Iraq.

His comments have already been addressed on this site.

No reason to be redundant. The previous comments hold true.

Ah, yes, decimate a "people", the same type of decimation that a " half-century ago, in a town with an unpronounceable name, a 17-year-old boy risked his life to save those of two young girls, whose ethnicity placed them on a collision course with a scourge devastating a continent and decimating a people."

Mahoning Valley stays true to Traficant

It must be his hair-do.

Justice Scalia has an opinion in today's
StarTribune

In his opening remarks he states:

I want to make clear that my views on the morality of capital punishment have nothing to do with how I vote in capital cases that come before the Supreme Court.

But, then later states:

It is a matter of great consequence to me, therefore, whether the death penalty is morally acceptable. As a Roman Catholic -- and being unable to jump out of my skin -- I cannot discuss that issue without reference to Christian tradition and the church's magisterium.

It sure sounds like his own views mesh with his legal opinion on the death penalty. For he uses a rational argument borne from his personal view of religious doctrine to quell any misgivings in his legal morality. The Court found itself in a similar situation in Roe v. Wade.

His idea that allows the State to function as the sole custodian of the death penalty and the morality that surrounds it, is contrary to the idea that the State is not infalliable and historically has made mistakes in handing down sentences that found the innocent guilty.

And because the so-called conservative approach to State's right advocacy is so strong, the innocent will have no recourse other than a Habeas Corpus through the federal courts, which is again contrary to the legal thinking of State's rights advocates.

Because the State courts (as is the federal court) are not infalliable, the death penalty has no place in the legal system. To think otherwise, is arrogance.

Glenn Reynolds agrees with Stuart Buck on the Afghan casualties.

It is very reasonable to think this since neither Reynolds and Stuart have ever been in the military and neither really know the meaning of war. When you compare the figures of combatants to civillians killed, the ratio does not equate a war.

One could say has there been another conflict in history where combatants killed were so few that jounalists could track down virtually all of them individually?

If Reynolds wants to play war pundit, he should put some chevrons on, play real war and not a war with words along with his cronies.

Stuart Buck asks Has there ever been another war in history where civilian casualties were so few that journalists could track down virtually all of them individually? Civilian casualties are a tragedy, to be sure, but all wars have them, and most wars have them to a much greater extent.

Excuse us, this figure goes beyond the line of reason. And how many combatants have been killed in relation to civilians being killed? The buck may stop with this individual's words but reason seems to be the real casualty of his comments.

One wonders if his sentiment would be the same with the
Canadian soldiers.

Let's see how it would sound.

Has there ever been another war in history where casualties of Canadian soldiers were so few that journalists could track down virtually all of them individually? Canadian casualties are a tragedy, to be sure, but all wars have them, and most wars have them to a much greater extent.

Or better yet how about American soldiers.

Has there ever been another war in history where casualties of American soldiers were so few that journalists could track down virtually all of them individually? American casualties are a tragedy, to be sure, but all wars have them, and most wars have them to a much greater extent.

It seems to this individual, innocent Afghans are expendable. Now how about American and Canadian soldiers.

Certainly those like Damian Penny who hold a great prejudice towards Middle Easterners will hold the bar much higher for the deaths of his fellow Canadians and call for "heads to roll" within the American military for an egregious mistake that is named "friendly fire."

What about the Afghans, what should that be called, "collateral damage"? And if so, how friendly.

He should talk, "So, too, are Arab Israelis having to fight for their place in the Zionist dream.” And what will that dream be. It wasn't built on fear. One could feel left out of that dream if one was an Arab.

Alaska remains on Andrew Sullivan's radar. He may have indeed solved the riddle. And others are noticing.

Taking data and skewing it in a fashion that gets the desired results is nothing new. And certainly it seems the New York Times has skew'd the data.

But what is all of this talk in my home town newspaper about the issue.

In the Anchorage Times editorial, it is stated towards the end that:

"...Also complicating the picture is the fact that the Climate Research Center temperatures were measured over the last 30 years at meteorological weather stations in Barrow, Fairbanks, Anchorage and Nome. Those average increases were: Barrow, 4.16 degrees; Fairbanks, 1.07 degrees; Anchorage 2.26 degrees and Nome, 2.28 degrees."

"...Those numbers certainly suggest that a warming trend is under way. Other scientists point out, however, that Barrow temperatures are strongly affected by ocean currents and ocean phenomena like the El Nino. How much of the heat wave there is attributable to atmospheric warming is open to question."

First, as has been stated before on this site here, here , here and here, the New York Times was incorrect. And the issue is becoming redundant.

However, the Anchorage Times raises one good point. That is the warming of ocean currents. Scientists have studied submarine volcanoes and have found that they have contributed to the warming of the ocean. How much, some scientists think as much as 35% of the warming.

It "boils" down to this, volcanic activity at the earth's surface can affect the ozone layer and submarine volcanoes cause the oceans to warm and both contribute to the warming of the earth's atmosphere.

Mother Nature has more of an impact than what humans have and to say otherwise, is foolishness.

Alaska glaciers raise global warming fears

Don't worry because according to some knowledgeable scientists they think warmer may mean bigger for coastal glaciers.

When it comes to what this really means for Alaska, it's possible to find almost as many opinions as there are knowledgeable scientists. One of the oddest probabilities is that a warmer climate could set our coastal glaciers growing. And yes, there is some evidence that this has started to happen.

So much for the melting and shrinking glaciers.

Bush was called crass because he is "ready to axe millions of dollars of UN population funding on the grounds that the money is being used to perform abortions and coerce people into sterilization in China."

Evidently British MP Norman Lamb missed this: Beijing orders Chinese women who are married to Taiwanese to have abortions

We will just leave you with what Mr. Lamb thinks of the UNFPA.

"We all agreed that the UNFPA were a force for good in China, that they are pushing China in the right direction away from coercive methods, and it seems completely crass and stupid to be cutting funding for this vital work."

And what direction would that be?

Gene Connected with Asthma Discovered

Scientists from the Icelandic genetics company deCODE, and its co-operative partners, have mapped out a gene that is believed to be connected to asthma. The scientific article that describes the discovery, bearing the title ‘A major susceptibility gene for asthma maps to chromosome 14q24’, will be published in the September edition of the ‘American Journal of Human Genetics’.

Insight magazine has an article on supporters of Hamas and Hezbollah filing a suit against Bush.

According to Insight, New York-based lawyer Stanley Cohen, an attorney for members of the terrorist group Hamas is the lawyer on the scene.

Militant activist Abdurahman Alamoudi, a founder and longtime leader of the American Muslim Council (AMC) states the suit "sends a message to the American Muslim community" that they need not be afraid of the U.S. government any more, and that they can now "challenge the system" through the courts. "We've been doing it politically and now we're going to do it legally."

Ok, so what is the beef.

The suit's anonymous plaintiffs focus their complaints on Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and the leaders of the Israeli military and security services, whom Cohen accuses of "genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, racketeering, acts of murder and torture, bodily harm, arson, kidnapping," and other crimes. They target Bush and Powell for allegedly failing to comply with federal laws requiring the executive branch to certify to Congress if U.S.-made weapons exported abroad were used to commit human rights abuses.

And there is more.

The suit also targets American arms manufacturers, including Boeing, McConnell-Douglas, and Textron-Bell Helicopter. The plaintiffs also accuse American Jewish and Christian groups, including a Lutheran church, of crimes because they sent aid to an Israeli settlement in the West Bank.

Lawyers. What can you say.

A MAN: You can have all sorts of abstract debates about the meaning of masculinity. Or you can ponder the example of Pat Tillman. 25 years' old, he decided to enlist in the Army rather than get a three-year $3.6 million NFL contract with the Arizona Cardinals. He'd shown class before - turning down a $9 million offer to play for St. Louis because of loyalty to his home team. But this move - the first NFL player to go to war rather than play ball since World War II - is in a class of its own. Better still, he won't even give an interview about his decision. Real men don't gab to the press. They don't spin, they act. In an age when we read of CEO's robbing their own shareholders for obscene pay-offs, when the last president of the United States declared as ethical only what you could get away with, and when large swathes of the intelligentsia can find reasons to undermine a war to protect a free people from weapons of mass destruction, Tillman is a hero. And a man.

Oh now we get it "Real men don't gab to the press." Has Andrew been talking to the press again.

Shoe with Heel Transmitter. Developed by the KGB during the Cold War to monitor secret conversations, a transmitter, microphone and batteries were hidden in the heel of a target's shoe. An editorial in the Union Leader states more eloquently what what was stated on this site about the "atheist father."

"...The ruling from the 9th Circuit affirming Newdow's charge that the Pledge is unconstitutional states that Newdow "claims that his daughter is injured when she is compelled to 'watch and listen as her state-employed teacher in her state-run school leads her classmates in a ritual proclaiming that there is a God and that our's (sic) is "one nation under God." '" If the daughter herself says she doesn't mind the Pledge, there is no harm done and therefore no legal right to sue. Newdow seems to know this. Now backtracking, he said last week, "The main thrust of this case is not my daughter, it's me."

Back in June it was argued here that the 9th Circuit is piss poor on the standing issue. Later when the father made this comment "The main thrust of this case is not my daughter, it's me." it was stated that he was an idiot. And the 9th was egregious in its decision. It failed to determine the sincerity of the case. These fly-by-night decisions have a past. Remember Roe v. Wade?

So what we get frrom all of this is the father doesn't have shared legal custody and the father has shown that he will put his own wants before considering the impact the case had on his daughter.

There has been some recent discussion on the New York Times article on increasing temperatures in the Arctic. A closer look at the agenda behind the EPA is found in an earlier report that was published in 1993.

As was stated on this site, in 1991, NASA did extensive reasearch on the Pinatubo eruption and its effect on the ozone. In the EPA report, this is how the natural events were reported.

On February 3, 1992, NASA released preliminary data acquired by the ongoing Arctic Airborne Stratospheric Experiment-II (AASE- II), a series of high-altitude instrument-laden plane flights over the northern hemisphere (see Interim Findings: Second Airborne Arctic Stratospheric Expedition). Additional data were also obtained from the initial observations by NASA's Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite (UARS), launched in September 1991. The key findings were as follows: 1. Northern latitudes:
The measurements showed higher levels of chlorine oxide (ClO) (the key agent responsible for stratospheric ozone depletion)
over Canada and New England than were observed during any previous series of aircraft flights.

Levels of hydrogen chloride (HCl), a chemical species that stores atmospheric chlorine, were observed to be low, providing new evidence for the occurrence of chemical processes that convert stable forms of chlorine into ozone-destroying species.
Levels of nitrogen oxides (NOx) were also observed to below, providing evidence of reactions that take place on the
surface of aerosols that diminish the ability of the atmosphere to control the buildup of chlorine radicals.
The observations of high ClO and bromine oxide (BrO) levels imply human-induced rates of ozone destruction of one to two
percent per day for a short period of time beginning in late January. Total annual ozone loss in the Arctic will depend upon
how long these chemical perturbations persist. 2. Temperate latitudes:
ClO levels over the United States and Canada and as far south as the Caribbean were many times greater than gas phase
model predictions. These levels are only partially explainable by enhanced aerosol surface reactions due to the emissions from Mount Pinatubo.
New observations of HCl and nitrogen oxide (NO) imply that chlorine and bromine are more effective in destroying ozone
than previously believed.
Thin horizontal layers of elevated ClO concentrations were found throughout the Northern Hemisphere.

The NASA findings indicate that in late January, 1992, the Arctic air was chemically "primed" for the potential formation
of a springtime ozone "hole" similar to that formed each spring over Antarctica. These findings also are consistent with theories
that ozone depletion may occur on aerosols anywhere around the globe, and not solely on polar stratospheric clouds as was previously believed.

After collecting more data, NASA released an April 30, 1992 "End of Mission Statement," which indicated that while a rise
in stratospheric temperatures in late January apparently prevented severe ozone depletion from occurring in the Arctic this year,
observed ozone levels were nonetheless lower than had previously been recorded for this time of year. This information has further
increased the Agency's concern that significant ozone loss may occur over populated regions of the earth, thus exposing humans, plants and animals to harmful levels of UV-B radiation, and adds support to the need for further efforts to limit emissions
of anthropogenic chlorine and bromine.

The EPA casually mentions the Pinatubo eruption. But the Pinatubo eruption was the cause for the high altitude missions. And it was stated by NASA that the Pinatubo eruption had a great affect on the ozone layer. But the EPA focuses on "over populated regions" where ozone losses are significant. This is a blatant contradiction. The Arctic regions saw a significant loss in the ozone layer and for the EPA to suggest that significant ozone losses are in "over populated regions" is obsured. The Arctic region overpopulated? I don't think so.

So from this, you get fast facts that are nothing more than a lie when the EPA states:

"Greenhouse gases are accumulating in Earth’s atmosphere as a result of human activities, causing global mean surface air temperature and subsurface ocean temperature to rise. While the changes observed over the last several decades are likely due mostly to human activities,we cannot rule out that some significant part is also a reflection of natural variability."

Cardinal Rivera should leave well enough alone. Why he attacks the media, is beyond reason.

His statements do nothing to help the Church. It only will hurt. And defending Cardinal Law is just plain dumb. It is his works and the works of the clergy that put the Church in the shambles it is in.

Glenn Reynolds states:

July 12, 2002
CLIMATE CLIMBDOWN: Back on June 18, I linked to data suggesting that a story on Alaskan climate change by Timothy Egan in the New York Times was, ahem, exaggerating things. Now Andrew Sullivan, who was also on top of this, notes that the Times has (sort of) admitted the error.

Posted by Glenn Reynolds at July 12, 2002 09:38 AM

Same thing Glenn, you are a day late and a dollar short. It was disputed on this site before June 18. The Barrow climo data was listed on this site June 17th to dispute the article. Wendler was putting out a rebutal to the article when? About the same time. He used Barrow, Fairbanks and Anchorage. Andrew would like to think he had an effect. Doubt it.

As for the warming, it varies, but one thing is sure. Volcanic eruptions have a damaging effect on the ozone layer. As was stated before, in 1991, I provided flight weather briefings and Skew-t data for NASA missions that conducted high altitude missions. These missions were conducted to see what effect the Pinatubo eruption was having on the ozone layer. NASA knows the eruptions damage the ozone layers and that the poles are affected greatly by the eruptions.

Lebanon court jails Christian activists, general acquitted

Sullivan takes the credit.

ANDREWSULLIVAN.COM GETS RESULTS! Not long after the American Prospect conceded that it had exaggerated its online traffic by almost 300 percent, the New York Times admits its Tim Egan Alaska story - hyped in editorials and by Bob "Suffer The Children" Herbert - contained a big fib. Here's the correction printed yesterday: A front-page article on June 16 about climate change in Alaska misstated the rise in temperatures there in the last 30 years. (The error was repeated in an editorial on Monday and in the Bob Herbert column on the Op-Ed page of June 24.) According to an assessment by the University of Alaska's Center for Global Change and Arctic System Research, the annual mean temperature has risen 5.4 degrees Fahrenheit over 30 years, not 7 degrees.
Notice how long it took before this front-page fib was corrected - weeks. Notice also no admission that the Alaska Climate Research Center puts the rise as far less than that. I'm traveling and haven't had time to dig into the Alaska University citation. If anyone out there could subject it to scrutiny, I'd be grateful. Like the American Prospect's revised numbers, I still don't buy it, and would like to see the basis of that 5.4 degree claim. But it's gratifying to see that even the New York Times has to concede a whopper when it's pointed out in daylight. Score one for the blogosphere. Here in cyber-space, we also correct our errors promptly.

Uh, Sullivan, it was stated here on this site before you even thought about it.

Ilan Berman writes about the New Front in Lebanon, but Berman is caught off gaurd. His timing is off because of the changes being made in Lebanon.

His story is old news and the title of his article should be Old Front. Here is his hidden agenda.

"...For now, it is still too early to tell whether the Bush administration is prepared to open a Lebanese front in the war on terror. One thing, however, is clear: with its mounting popularity and growing capabilities, Hezbollah is a powerful ally for al Qaeda."

He can forget about Lebanon. It won't be on his wish list.

Captured Palestinian leader to be expelled to Lebanon in swap

Thursday, July 11, 2002

After an unusually strong rebuke from the United States, some Israeli officials said Thursday it was unwise to have shut down offices at a university that is headed by a leading Palestinian moderate.

Israel silences the moderate voice of Palestine

The Vatican was a target of the Al-Qaeda according to an article in the Corriere della Sera.

Alexander Downer talks tough on Iraq.

Will there be an ICC date in this dictator's future?

Senior Palestinian Commander Arrested

Arafat is quickly losing ground and it is happening fast.

Israel fuels the fire

This being said in response to the discriminatory law some in the Israeli government want to have passed.

The Phalangists of new and its President Karim Bakradouni justified the removal of Gemayel by stating he had previously insulted the party's leadership.

Karim, a Phalangist has close ties with the Hizbullah and has had contacts with the secretary general of the Hizbullah going back to at least 1998.

Look for the Brits to have the company of the Czech Chem team in Iraq. If it hasn't already happened.

This father is one idiot

"...The main thrust of this case is not my daughter, it's me."

And the Ninth Circuit never questioned the motive and sincerity. The standing issue was never in the favor of the daughter and it certainly ain't now.

Violence could jeopardize Palestinian elections: Peres

Peres offers a stern warning but at the same time states that "...The quartet -- and EU -- can play a strong and useful role in the process."

The moderate Palestinians will fight their eviction notice.

The Israeli hardliners do not want any Palestinian effort to succeed. This is a clear provocation on the part of the hardliners. When Peres makes comments about ending the violence, the hardliners come up with this shit. And it is done against a Palestinian who has verbally attacked suicide bombers.

Lebanese soldiers die in arrest operation

These soldiers were killed while conducting a raid on the Ain al-Helweh refugee camp. The Lebanese were going to arrest Palestinian militants.

This shows a dramatic shift in attitude in Lebanon. This refuge camp was off-limits to the Lebanese police. The refuge camp was a haven for terrorists. It now looks as if Syria's hold on Lebanon is weakening. Syria would have never allowed the Lebanese police or army to conduct such operations.

This is more proof that Lebanon is slowly changing.

Three Lebanese soldiers killed in south Lebanon

This is an update on the Lebanese ship that was abandoned.

The Al-Qaeda in Lebanon are probably moving out. Interestingly that story comes in time when this story on Lebanon and the Al-Qaeda link and Lahoud's comments.

CNN is running a story on the Phalangist party in Lebanon.

The Phalangists have expelled Amin Gemayel. The Phalangists of new and the Lebanese government are pro-Syrian. In a story published by the BBC, they state that the Phalangists will be weakened by the removal of Gemayel. The article is quirky in that it seems to try to show that the Syrians will gain strength by the removal of Gemayel because it will weaken the Phalangist organization.

This is contradictory. The Christians have been divided and the Christians who support Lahoud are pro-Syrian and will loose their power base. Those who have formed a coalition with Rafik Hariri will gain power as is indicated by the recent elections. These changes will continue and the moderate Christians, Muslims will find themselves forming a strong political base.

It was stated here that the seizure of the abandon ship was an indication of big changes that will place in Lebanon.

This is another example of the big changes that will take place in Lebanon and for the better.

Great, just Great, Sullivan is right for once. He nails it when he talks about the New York Times article on Alaska warming. Sullivan quotes and states:

Here's what the Alaska Climate Research Center has said about that Egan piece:

The article "Alaska, No Longer So Frigid, Starts to Crack, Burn, and Sag" written by Timothy Egan, stated that the average temperature has risen seven degrees in the last 30 years. This statement was repeated in an editorial by Bob Herbert of 24 June 2002. This statement is incorrect. The correct warming for Alaska is about 1/3 of the quoted amount for the last climatological mean 1971 to 2000 (see table below). It should be pointed out that the table presents data from first class weather stations, which are professionally maintained and generate high quality data. The three stations, Barrow, Fairbanks, and Anchorage, represent a cross section of Alaska from north to south. Further, Barrow, situated in Northern Alaska, which gave the largest temperature increase, is the only long-term first class meteorological weather station in Northern Alaska. All changes are based upon the time period 1971 to 2000 and are compiled from a linear trend.

Now this correction has been around since June 24. So has this chart which shows average temperatures in Alaska for the last century, in which the century-long rise has been around 2 degrees Fahrenheit. The Egan piece's assertion of such a temperature rise has no basis in fact whatsoever. It's made up. It's a non-fact. It has expired in verifiability. It has gone to rest among the fjords of Alaska. It is an ex-fact. So when will the Times correct this mistake? And when will they stop broadcasting it as if it were something they should be proud of?

They shouldn't but that is what was stated on this site a long time back and Barrow was used to show the trend that varies up and down.

Good to see some of those at the National Weather Service and other agencies are putting out the data to refute such allegations. If one wants to know the reasons behind the data, ask NASA. They have been monitoring volcanic eruptions. I should know, in 1991 they flew high altitude missions to get atmospheric samples during the Pinatubo eruption. This was done over Alaska and was done to monitor the ozone.

When the Israeli hardliners closed the offices in a Palestinian University, it was stated on this site that President Bush should come out publicly and criticize the act.

Well today he did.

Keep in mind the Israelis closed the offices of a moderate Palestinian and for people like Sullivan who point to the firing of the Israeli scholars in Britian but do not say anything about this, here is what the Bush administration had to say.

VOUCHING FOR VOUCHERS [Dave Kopel]
Rod's fear that vouchers will lead to government interference with private K-12 schools is quite legitimate, in light of how federal funding (via student loans and research grants) has created extensive federal controls over college and university education. He's also worried about vouchers going to "Louis Farrakhan Academy, Wahhabi Central High, or Wicca Elementary," and on this, I think he's half-right. America has always been religiously pluralist and tolerant, and our country has nothing to fear from neo-pagan families sending their children to eco-worship schools.Wiccans may be strange by contemporary standards, but they're no more dangerous than the Amish or lots of other small sects. As for Wahhabi schools, one possible effect of vouchers might be to make Muslim schools less dependent on Saudi funding, and hence less likely to promote the Saudi pro-terrorism line.

Simply amazing. And to think that some think sentence structure is more important.

Then you have Rod making this zinger.

SUMMONED: [Rod Dreher] A well-connected Eastern Orthodox source tells me that President Bush has asked to meet with top Orthodox church leaders at the White House on Wednesday afternoon. Word is none of the Orthodox know why they were invited. Yet this source recalls that the president's father invited Christian leaders, including heads of the Orthodox churches, to the White House in a similar fashion before Operation Desert Storm. He suspects this Wednesday invitation may be a signal that the invasion of Iraq is imminent.

Uh, someone needs to tell Rod there was an Operation Desert Shield before an Operation Desert Storm. Aren't we missing one stage of the game, gotsta have one of those snazzy operation names in place before having an invasion. It couldn't be by chance that it was a prayer session to pray for peace. Maybe a peace pipe was passed around or better yet, Bush might have asked the clergy to spread the word of peace.

"...Israel has suffered hundreds, nay, thousands of terrorist attacks – suicide and non-suicide – over the last several months."

Then World Net Daily posts this.

Let us get this straight. Fiamma Nirenstien states thousands of attacks have occured within the past few months. But an Israeli counter-terrorism group states that since September 2000, not the past few months, about 420 Israeli noncombatants have been killed since September 2000.

This makes one wonder where Nirestien has gotten her figures of thousands of attacks within the past few months. Maybe World Net Daily would like to provide the source.

There seems to be a sense to some that when you post on a blog; grammar, spelling and sentence structure is a must.

Some beleagured law student states and quotes:

How to write sentences

Everyone who writes anything should review the basics of sentences at 0(zero)format.

Sentences are like buildings. If they're poorly built, they fall apart, look bad, and kill the local real estate. They can also be too well built, so pristine that nobody wants to use them. Such sentences are uninhabitable. But most sentences are at least livable...

But it's possible to recognize a sentence as a sentence, rather than a mere collection of words, no matter how many varieties there are. We know a tower and a tepee are both buildings, even if the differences are great. The two structures have fundamental elements in common. Likewise, all sentences have a few basic requirements.

Horseshit. A well built house can look like a whore house, have the feel of a whore house and actually be a whore house. And it is assumed that this post is related to blogging not an English term paper. Blogging isn't so much about form, it is more about content and expression.

When all of the stories came out that Jordan was going to be a staging ground for an invasion against Iraq, it was stated on this site that it was highly unlikely that there would be an invasion into Iraq.

If President Bush does not change his stance or come out with a stern statement against Israel on these issues which deal with hardliners focusing in on moderate Palestinians and their racist laws, Bush will fail in the Middle East.

He will be seen as a man who is one sided and will not stand behind his calling on fairness.

In good faith the Palestinians are coming out against Arafat.

It is time for Bush to come down hard on Sharon.

Agreed.

Having fenced words at one time with this individual who is the resident Kahanist of FreeRepublic, it is always interesting to see their response. This individual is a reflection of the many hardliners who are Kahanists since they are well, Kahanists.

The story on the law that have some in the Israeli government up in arms, has this individual shouting at Peres. What should Israel do deport Peres to the U.S.? More specifically to New York? How about being neighbors? Hell that wouldn't work, the guy is for segregation in Israel.
What a bunch of brave souls the Kahanists are. Remember Rabin?

Fiamma Nirenstien comes up with some remarkable statements in Jew Hunt.

Israel has suffered hundreds, nay, thousands of terrorist attacks – suicide and non-suicide – over the last several months.

Of course this bias has been reflected in the New York Times and by Israel's hardliners such as Ben Eliezer

Reynolds and Sullivan read here.

Next time you guys go off and spew your tripe, study and understand the subject first.

Bullshit.

It seems some don't want to see the Palestinians oust Arafat and succeed at having their own government.

It should be interesting to see how the Bush administration reacts to this.

Stay tuned for more changes from the ICTY.

The U.N. Tribunal has sent out a warrant and got their man.

Miroslav Deronjic was seized near the town of Bratunac in eastern Bosnia and will be flown to The Hague to face a United Nations trial.

But wait a second. A while back we talked about the inconsistency of the tribunal.

In a proceeding against Sharon a three panel judge stated:

"If a person is not found on the territory, we find it inadmissible," the court said in its 22-page ruling.

OK, this was for the Belgium court and past history has shown the court to administer its own rules differently. In this case, the individual was not found on Belgium soil but is going to The Hauge and will be tried in the ICTY instead.

One has to ask why is it that the court in Belgium all of a sudden can not bring to book war criminals that are not on the soil of the court but the ICTY or the ICTR can. And why did the Belgium court bring the Catholic nuns to book instead of the ICTR. Was it because they were on Belgian soil? Or was it a test case? The latter is what the international law community states was the reason for the change in venue.

There lies the corruption in the U.N. tribunal. It does what it wants and is politically motivated. And makes changes as cases come to the tribunal.

Japan to command U.S. warships in RIMPAC drill off Hawaii

What bullshit from you know who.

THE NEW BLACKLIST: Some British academics have started to ban Israelis from being on the boards of scholarly journals. The virulently anti-Israel professor Mona Baker at the University of Manchester, removed two Israeli scholars from her journals, entirely because of their nationality. She made no apologies. They removal of the contributors reflected her "interpretation of what a boycott of Israel means". She told the Daily Telegraph: "Many people in Europe have signed a boycott against Israel. Israel has gone beyond just war crimes. It is horrific what is going on there. Many of us would like to talk about it as some kind of Holocaust which the world will eventually wake up to, much too late, of course, as they did with the last one." Defense against terror is now equivalent to the gassing of six million European Jews. I wonder if Professor Baker is aware that the first Holocaust began, in part, with the banning of Jews from German universities. Almost no British academics have yet protested her decision.

First, what is wrong with someone calling out and protesting a country who has gone beyond the extremes in killing innocent children or an individual who may support that country's violence. The individual wasn't fired for being an Israeli, but if they were, that would be an entirely different subject.

Should U.S. citizens not feel the need to protest the killing of innocent Afghanistans who were in a wedding or another citizen of another country voice a protest. It is their right.

Sullivan has two faces. It is wrong if it is against Israel and Ok if it is against an Arab country. And as for what the Israelis have been doing? What about the children that were shot by the tank. And lastly, Andrew needs to read up on his friggin history. And then he might ask some Poles what they thought of the Soviets and the NKVD closing Polish schools.

Boy that will piss him off. Hope he doesn't become a Holocaust denier.

Talk about shooting across the bow.

This blogger misses not only across the bow but doesn't even hit the water when he states:

The argument on the other side is that the mother's first amendment rights end when they begin to cause injury to her daughter. The flaw in this argument is that it assumes that the physical well being of the child is more important than the spiritual well being, an assumption which is contrary to the first amendment, which clearly values the spiritual freedom as highly, if not more highly than physical freedon. Consider that the Constitution acts to limit the expression of many physical freedoms, yet in unambiguous language does not allow ANY restriction on spiritual freedoms.

The First Amendment applies to individuals and trying to mesh that in with parental rights and responsibilites, the guy misses the mark. It is called Life or Death and unless this guy is for euthanasia by cancer, he needs to reread constitutional doctrine on parental responibilities.

So what's it going to be - an all-out attack from bases surrounding Iraq? No attack at all? Or just more of the occassional bombings that have gone largely unreported for years...?

The latter. I doubt at this point in time with what is happening in Lebanon, with Arafat and Egypt, Israel will get its wish of an invasion.

Oh hell another brilliant comment from Damian Penny from Daimnation:

Hesham Hedayet expressed anti-Israel sentiments to his employees, went to LAX the other day armed to the teeth, and went on a shooting rampage right in front of the Israeli national airline's ticket counter. And the FBI is still trying to figure out his motive.

Here's a question: if the United States is supposed to be a kill-'em-all cowboy nation, blindly being led into a war against Islam by the omnipotent Jewish lobby groups, why the hell is the freaking FBI afraid to say Hedayet was a Muslim who wanted to kill Jews? Can anyone tell me? Rivero? Fisk? Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?
8:13 PM

Someone should tell Penny that maybe according to his post, it would be a hate crime. But that would contradict his other posts on it being a terrorist act. Granted the FBI is slow and is using semantics, but Penny takes the cake along with the others. Patience is not this blogger's virtrue in this post.

Evidently the boy hasn't learned from his past mistakes on relying on polls and passing judgment so quick onto Palestinians.

My, My, Lordy, Lordy, look who will be eating crow.

There is a whole lot of irony in this article.

Oh ye warbloggers have little faith in the Palestinians. Give Bush some credit, but most will go to the Palestinians who are willing to lay it on the line. And to guys like Reynolds, Penny and Sullivan and the many other bigoted bloggers who think "Palestinians and the Koran" equate to killing all Jews.

Don't piss on our leg and tell us it's raining anymore. Screw the polls you cite about how Arafat will remain in power and how there is supposedly a great number of Palestinians supporting him. Guess what, the IDF thinks that Arafat will be gone within 6 months.

We feel it will be sooner, but of course, we are on record that the polls are wrong and guys like Reynolds, Sullivan and Penny don't know squat on the Middle East.

And by the way, to you warbloggers, here is what we have been alluding to when Arafat goes; "...Israel, say sources in the General Staff, has to be careful of "Kahane or Kana," a reference to either a Jewish terror attack on Arabs or a mistake by the security forces, including the IDF, resulting in many Palestinian casualties."

If Sharon thinks that he can show pictures of trailers being removed and this is complying with leaving the settlements, he is wrong. Things are just starting to heat up with the Israeli terrorists and the quote by the Israeli source is a reflection of that worry.

I suspect we will be seeing alot of stories on Israeli terrorists in the near future as the settlements are changed over.

If true, then the FBI has some explaining to do.

U.S. TO AL QAEDA: You coulda been somebody. You coulda been a contender. Instead of a bum, which is what you are.. That miserable shooting at LAX was the best you could pull off for July 4th? Jeez, in America Junior High students can do better than that!

Perhaps Americans have been making too much of these guys. If we had done something like the 9/11 attacks, there would have been a bunch of follow-ons already in place, timed and targeted to create maximum disruption, and part of an overall strategy. And, like Americans, we would have been embarrassed to make big threats and not deliver on them.

The World Tribune can come up with some shocking headlines. CIA may train Palestinians responsible for suicide attacks

Rajoub is not responsible for the suicide attackers. He is however, responsible for coming down hard on the Hamas and Islamic Jihad groups.

In the article it is stated that: "...Rajoub agreed to become the military governor of the West Bank region of Jenin."

He did? When did this happen. More amazingly, the Tribune does correctly state that "...Rajoub is regarded as the most pro-American security chief in the PA."

But then contradicts itself by showing that he is pro-American. He is also supported by the Israelis. The World Tribune certainly has the look and feel of an Indymedia source but for the opposite side.

So that leaves the question on who is the U.S. going to support. It certainly won't be Arafat and it can't be Rajoub unless of course it is to counter Arafat. And who is it that the World Tribune says supported the suicide bombers and is being supported by the CIA.

She does fixate on Leahy. But don't tell her about Rep. Bob Barr who was against the use of military tribunals unless a declaration of war had been declared.

Some might say that he is the only honest liberal. Ann, sharpening that ax you want to grind? Or just grinding the ax. Be carefull, that edge is getting a little dull.

It seems Damian Penny is slowly coming around.

The Palestinians may be finally starting to realize that their beloved "martyrs" have hurt their cause and given ammunition to those who will never, ever support a Palestinian state. If they are ever to be truly liberated, they must resist those who try to turn their society into a death cult. Then, and only then, will the Israelis be compelled to negotiate for an independent Palestine.

Not entirely correct. First there are Palestinians who subscribed to peace. Second, the Israelis will have to deal with their hardliners. And as everyone knows, Israeli hardliners do not want peace nor a Palestinian state.

One has to wonder if Andrew Sullivan left the Brits voluntarily or was forced out. In his latest screed, he validates what was said on this site about the LAX killer. People would remember the incident and link the individual with an entire race.

Here is his entire screed:

"READ KORAN": That's the bumper sticker long affixed to Hesham Hadyat's front door - put there again the day of the killing (and then removed). He was angry that Old Glory was being flown from the apartment window above him after September 11. Employees say he was virulently anti-Israel. He went to LAX with the intent of killing - and somehow he missed the Delta counter and ended up at El Al. And we're supposed to think that "so far we have no indication of any type of prejudice against any particular organization or nationality." What planet are these FBI denialists on? It's irrelevant whether Hadyat was connected to official terrorist groups. In fact, if he is unconnected, his Jew-killing is more troubling. He is simply responding to the hate that the Arab and Muslim world has been stoking against Jews for decades. He needed no official instruction to tell him to kill Jews and Israelis. He wasn't poor: he was a prosperous immigrant who drove a Mercedes. The only instruction he needed was affixed to his door: "Read Koran." Why should we be surprised when, under the current circumstances and stoked by the new anti-Semitism from the Arab world and Europe, Hadyat took the Koran's injunction to kill Jews literally? And when is our government and p.c. media going to recognize we have a problem here? Can you imagine if a white supremacist had shown up at an African airline counter and killed blacks? Would anyone be "puzzled" about the motive?
- 12:00:06 PM

What would you expect. Nothing less. Evidently Sullivan missed the story about the Palestinians who want peace with Israel. But they must be on a different page in the Quran. And he must of missed the story about the Afghanistan V.P. being killed. There is a twist.

And then hysterically, he states: "...Can you imagine if a white supremacist had shown up at an African airline counter and killed blacks? Would anyone be "puzzled" about the motive? "

No Andrew we can't, because it would be hard to tell if they would go after blacks who subscribe to the Quran or Jews who subscribe to the Talmud.

But we are sure that if it were the Muslims they went after, you would be caught riding in on the same wave of hate. Your rhetoric on the Quran is similar to that of the boys and girls at Stormfront on the Talmud. And it is surely the same on anti-immigration policies against Muslims.

Please, to you Brits, take him back.

Who is Karsou? Some say he is the Palestinian's Mandela.

Debra Orin in her op-ed talks about Hussein balking on an U.N investigation. She stated that "President Bush has demanded that Iraq permit the return of the inspectors - or else."

Well the President has put the U.S. in a precarious position. A double standard. Consistency in attitudes would be nice.

Sharon denied an U.N. investigation into alleged war crimes committed in Jenin. It was stated on this site that the Bush administration had better play tough with Sharon on the issue. Israel basically stated the U.N. had no authority to investigate. Now, Hussein is pulling the same tactic as Sharon with an U.N investigation

Orin hints that "...Some moderate Arab states are said to have agreed to support action against Saddam - but only if it is clear that he is refusing to live up to his obligation to admit weapons inspectors."

Highly unlikely given that Sharon pulled the same antics as Hussein. The President handled the Jenin incident in a piss poor manner. And with the recent video of the Israeli tank shooting fleeing Palestinians, his handling of Sharon will make any future negotiations with the moderate Arab countries even tougher.

Insight is running a story about a link between the Al Qaeda and the Albanian KLA.

This information isn't new, but it does show how U.S. policy does tend to wane, spin, change and do other things. In the article, it is mentioned that the Bush administration while talking tough against states who sponsor terrorists, the administarion has not addressed the Albanian's support of the Al Qaeda. It is hinted that the U.S. does not want to turn over NATO's "apple cart."

The Boston Globe has finally picked up on what has been said on this site. The changes being made by Arafat are not done out of reform, but instead it is politcally motivated.

In another story where a Palestinian mother and child were killed, the author raises the issue of the rift between Arafat and Rajoub.

In the article it is stated:

"...Mr Rajoub, who has been mentioned as a possible successor to Mr Arafat, has had close ties with Israeli officials."

LeBoutillier thinks he has a speech that Bush should have used.

LeBoutillier thinks that:

"...4) And now to my last point: democracy. It is no coincidence that only one nation in the Middle East is prospering. That happens to be the only democracy in the region. Which country is this? Israel. Yes, in Israel it is the will of the people – all the people, including Jews, Arabs and Christians – through the power of the vote that determines public policy. Meanwhile, Israel's neighbors all suffer from the hand of powerful, centralized dictatorships or monarchies in an age of democracy."

Israel is the only nation in the Middle East that is prospering?

Well let us see if it is.

How about the general state of economic affairs? Nope.

Update: The L.A. Times is reporting that the man was Middle Eastern or Latino. It is being reported elsewhere that dogs have detected something in the gunman's car.

The man has now been identified as Hesham Mohamed Hadayet. And no other reports on the dogs and the gunman's car.

Here is a different read on the economic woes of Palestinians.

This story hints that Sharon maybe closer to exiling Arafat. This is highly unlikely. It will come from within. It would be interesting to know what the CIA has been doing in its meetings with certain Palestinians.

Would this Palestinian be the one.

We have stated that a possible Coup attempt was being made against Arafat. So Arafat fires two top leaders within the organization.

One has been strong against the Hamas, Islamic Jihad and has been supported by the CIA.

The Guardian however threw in this comment: "....The reshuffle follows intense international pressure on Mr Arafat to reorganise his security services so they are better able to confront militant groups such as Hamas and Islamic Jihad, both of whom send suicide bombers into Israel."

Not likely since Jibril Rajoub has been very effective against the Hamas and Islamic Jihad. However, his past is not pure.

Try this one on for size.

How about a new tactic that the civilized world could appreciate.

Why doesn't the entire population kill itself and leave the regular humans alone?

Or how about this one.

I looked through this article, and couldn't decide whether these Palis wanted someone who would work for peace, or someone who would be more effective at defeating the IDF. I strongly suspect the latter, but I don't know for sure.

Best thing is, they overthrow Arafat for some hardliner Hamas a**hole, and then Israel can finish them all off.

"? I thought Palis want to run Israel into the sea...and yet, though, they want Israeli jobs"

Uh...actually, I think the idea is to run the Israelis into the sea...so the Palis can steal their money, businesses, homes, shops etc.,...whole ready made infrastructure for a bunch of people who are unable to achieve it on their own.

Yep some real winners there and what about Jim Robinson? Looks like he will let them slide.

Chilean Supreme Court Rules Out Trial For Pinochet

Here we go. The Moderates were talking about these Palestinians who were not getting their donations. Instead the P.A. was taking it for themselves.

For those idiots that think Arafat is popular, think again. Of course the press will present a totally different picture by one dumb statement: "We love him and support him fully," Abu Qaria said. "But there are some people around him who are stealing our rights and ignoring our demands."

And who was doing the stealing? The P.A. and of course Arafat.

Sullivan jealous?

STRAIGHT GUYS IN DENIAL: According to the Associated Press's John Solomon, retiring Senator Fred Thompson is a real hottie. "Divorced since the mid-1980s," Solomon wrotes, "Thompson has been one of Washington's most eligible bachelors." Check out the photo of the 59-year-old with his 35 year-old bride. What's the betting that John Solomon is straight too?

What is all the fuss? The photo of the Senator's wife.

Sullivan, what a caddish fellow. He should be so lucky to latch onto what the Senator has latched onto his arm. But then again, Sullivan hasn't reached the age of attracting younger boys when he grows a poochy belly.

If true, it is nice to know that the Tehran Times is publishing this news.

The boys at Indymedia are running into some problems

Like was stated on this site, web sites will be shut down. And it won't just be on one side of the political aisle.

Right they will. Arafat and his spokesmen are using Fear.

OK Reynolds needs a rest but what about his nemisis instapunditwatch? What will she do?

With the World Cup finally over, we went digging in our archives and came up with the reason why Brazil won.

Could that be the reason why Ronaldo said that winning the World Cup was better than sex? And was the coach right?
